A ‘Neutral Bohemian Wanderer’ styled shoot by Cloud 9 Weddings & Events
Today we bring you a beautifully styled shoot from our very own BCME expert panel member, and founder of Cloud 9 Weddings & Events, Mennat Al Hammami. The shoot is based on the theme of ‘neutral bohemian wanderer’, and features a soft palette of colours to compliment the beach setting and to add a touch of romance. Now, when most people think of beaches in the UAE, they tend to think of those in Dubai with the iconic Burj al Arab in the foreground. However, one of the reasons why this shoot works so well is that the beach (at Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi) features lots of greenery and is not quite as ‘perfect’ as others in the UAE. We think it adds a raw, alluring dimension to the images. The light is perfect and we particularly love the personalised Arabic marble slabs on the table – what a wonderful idea for wedding favours for your out of town guests; something unique and arty that they can treasure forever.
Below, Mennat explains the concept of the shoot and how everyone worked together to create something natural yet pretty, encapsulating the very essence of the boho bride complimented by several bridal attire looks. Enjoy!
A Note from the Wedding Planner
The concept of this shoot is ‘The Neutral Bohemian Wanderer’; elegant yet most certainly laid-back, romantic and feminine with eclectic features throughout. Much like my love for fashion, my wedding style evolves seasonally and corresponds with the different personas of brides. This is why I opted to create four Boho looks, with one table theme in mind. I tied in the current trend of a nude and neutral palette, marble accents and ‘barely there’ makeup. I chose relaxed silhouettes, embroidery, and fringe details. Similarly, with the table setting, I incorporated marble accents. Overall, a clean and effortless set up that could work in any open space available in the UAE.
Meeting the photographer, Jessica, from Tiphotography UAE for the first time, I felt we spoke the same styling language! Being an interior designer as well, Jessica’s side business revolves around producing furniture and accessories for events, which can now be exclusively customised for Cloud 9 clients. We ended up creating a low crate-like table as well as marble soft grey name card tags and slabs, which I used underneath the show plates.
The location of the shoot was a key ingredient to pull off a dreamy ambience. The Saadiyat Beach Club Abu Dhabi was the best space available to bring the images to life, with their relaxed open air space by the beach; I highly recommend their outdoor locations to couples looking to get married in Abu Dhabi. Everything about this place is magical and relaxed.
The gowns had to be particularly bespoke, so I turned to Beljour Bridal in Dubai. Shari (founder and head designer) and I worked with four very different dresses and transformed them by adding simple detailing to each gown to get the look we were after; each dress very unique and every bit Boho. Shari took it a step further and created two different headpieces to match two of the gowns.
Natasha Zaki from Glossy Makeup created the looks of 2016 and 2017; ‘barely there’ makeup, which brings out a bride’s features without looking too heavy. Natasha used soft neutral tones on the eyes and nude lips to start off, changing only the lip colour to a soft pink for the last two looks. The hair stylist, Mike Hamdan from Pace e Luce at The Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi, created three effortless styles. For the first look, Mark created soft loose beach waves with lots of volume to go with the beaded headpiece. For the second look, we opted for a chunky side French braid secured with the rest of the hair in a high ponytail. Third, a relaxed bun suited for a windy wedding day by a beach and finally, the Classic bridal up-do with a gorgeous detailed hair accessory by Beljour.
Bliss Flowers, who are simply great at what they do, designed the flowers. The boho ‘hand-picked’ inspired bouquet was an unusual palette of dusty rose and white rananculus. The table had pink chrysanthemums and white peonies, which added a subtle hint of playfulness to the more serious elements on the table.
Finally, the focal point: the wedding cake! I asked Ana from Nice Ribbon Atelier to create something in a nude palette and a marble finish. The result was simply magnificent.
