Bohemian Baby Shower, In Dubai
This month so far has certainly been a busy one. Not only has work been fully on the go with lots of meetings, events and articles to write, I’ve also had my couple’s maternity shoot and baby shower take place. On the weekends I’ve started my hypnobirthing course, so every day is packed and I am thankful that I still have energy left, although it’s starting to wane now at almost 31 weeks pregnant….yawn!
Today’s post is all about my baby shower, which took place at Al Barari on the 5th November. A lot of people were surprised I was so hands on with my own baby shower organisation, but what can I say? That’s just me…I love décor and I wanted to organise the theme and of course, work with my BCME vendors. I’m fortunate enough to have access to such creativity and tend to make the most of it. My best buddies, however, took over the invitations, guest list, registry and games. They also did a fab job on the day hosting the event, so I did get some respite and some surprises.
I am quite free spirited and for some reason, I just imagine my little boy as being a bit of a wild child, he-he, so the bohemian theme sprung to mind. I love anything boho related and fell in love with the idea straight away. Of course, I used Pinterest as a source of inspiration for lots of creative ideas, and then added my own spin.
I called upon the creative services of some of my BCME listed vendors to make my mood board and baby shower vision become a reality and, as always, they were all amazing! All the images in today’s post were beautifully captured by the very talented Paula Scalco Photography.
The colour scheme was a primary of blues, with secondary tones of white, blush pink, garden greens and gold. Once I had secured the date, the theme and the venue (at Al Barari, due to its lush greenery and chilled ambience which lent itself very well to the theme), I started sourcing the vendors.
I chose Firenze Flora to organise the flowers; nothing too elaborate, lots of green foliage and some statement flowers on the table, as well as a few flower crowns. They did an amazing job as always and got the colours spot on and I was super happy with the florals on the day.
For the incredible hanging signage, name cards, jewellery boxes, ‘Gifts’ signage and ‘yummy mummy’ signage, I chose non-other than The Party. I have known Melissa, Co-Founder of The Party, for years now, and she is so easy to work with. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted, but if I ever need a little direction, she is always full of creative ideas. I knew I wanted a statement item at the shower, and asked for a giant white dream catcher to be created, with the worlds ‘Boho Baby’ in calligraphy font. I loved it and it has now taken pride of place in my boy’s nursery. Everything else created for the day was just beautiful and below you can see some of The Party’s incredible work.
Every tablescape needs the special Party Social touch, and this is who I used for the table set-up; I adore their coloured glasses. Togther with the advice of my coordinator, Menka of Love Details, we chose the below setup, a fine mixture of blues and bronze/gold.
My welcome signage was designed by my graphic designer and buddy Maha I Design, and the giant balloons were supplied by Happy Bubble Balloons, an awesome company who have the best range of creative and stylish balloons for any event.
The incredible cake was designed and baked by Ana at Nice Ribbon Atelier. Ana has been my go to gal for all my cakes this year, as she is a true artist. She creates visual magic, but does not compromise on taste either – very important, especially when it comes to wedding cakes. I literally told her my colour scheme and theme and trusted her to create magic, and that she did. Highly recommended!
Supplying some statement furniture pieces was Innovative Hiring. From their inventory, I hired a white easel board from my welcome signage, the gorgeous peacock wicker chair and the statement hairpin dining table for the cake and favour displays.
As for the giveaways, they were supplied by a mixture of vendors. The delicious blueberry flavoured popcorn was supplied none other than Sunny’s POP, who also designed the pretty ‘About To POP’ dream catcher tags, in keeping with our theme. I then gave each guest a pretty engraved jewellery box each, with a thank you and dream catcher inscription on each side of the lid. These were created by The Party. Lastly, each guest received a mini dream catcher, with an explanation of its meaning and a cute image of a sleeping baby on the tag. these were supplied my Samera at IGifts JLT. I used IGifts during my wedding too, and they are so helpful. Even if they don’t stock what you want, they will find a way of getting the items you desire. A great company to source your wedding favours from.
And lastly, the sweet tipi in which the guest’s gifts were placed, was my own, purchased for my boy’s nursery from SnapDragon Dubai.
The whole event was pulled together and styled to perfection by Menka of Love Details, a Dubai based wedding planning agency. She coordinated with my vendors in the week leading up to the shower, arrived early on the day to ensure all was in order and styled everything beautifully. Her, along with my best girlfriends who also arrived early, saved the day, as the venue made a boo boo with my booking! Big thanks to Menka and my girls.
The shower was beautiful and I had so much fun, especially with the wacky games me dear friend Alice Hartley thought up. Baby Hurst received lots of wonderful gifts and many bought from my gift registry set-up via Mumzworld.com. I highly recommend their registry if you are planning a shower. I want to thank all my favourite women in Dubai who attended and showered me and bump with love! We will always remember this special day filled with laughter and a few tears. Thank you.
