We recently introduced you to our brand new BCME Diary Of Real Bride Contributor, Dana Hajjaj. Each month, Dana will be giving you, our readers, access all areas into her personal journey of planning her dream wedding, and all the ups and downs that go with it!
Dana is getting married in July 2020, (location TBC – we can’t wait to find out where!) so each month she’ll be keeping us up to date on all her exciting wedding developments via her BCME Diary Of A Real Bride features. Along the way, Dana will also share her experiences and top tips for other brides to be, which we hope will ease some of the stress, and answer some of the questions you may be facing in the lead up to your own big day.
Last month, Dana updated us on her engagement and wedding planning journey so far. This month, Dana’s back to share her gift registry tips and tricks for other BCME brides to be.
Over to you, Dana!
Let’s get real…One of the best parts of getting married is the gifts! And while receiving unplanned gifts is lovely, it could start to overcrowd your marital home when you and your new husband are given items you may not necessarily need…
Although the ‘wedding gift registry’ concept is considerably new to the Arab culture, I think it’s a fresh alternative to good old money and golden token gifting. By definition, a ‘wedding gift registry’ is a service provided by a website or retail store that assists engaged couples in the communication of gift preferences to wedding guests. By selecting items from a brand’s catalogue, couples list desired items and file this ‘wish list’ with their chosen retail store/stores, so when guests visit said stores, they have a guide from which to choose their wedding gifts from.
My List is a UAE based online site that does just this! It also happens to be extremely convenient and super tech-friendly. If you’re anything like me, and you hate the malls, then My List is the perfect solution for your wedding gift registry. Picture that scene from Bride Wars where they’re shopping and tagging items one by one, by hand, in a huge department store for their gift registry…Only with My List, you can do this all from the comfort of your own home, in a matter of clicks, but with the same huge variety of options!
After selecting the items of your choice, they’ll then be added to your personalised My List wedding gift registry page. The whole process is very efficient. Another great feature this platform has is that you get to choose whether you’d like to claim what your guests have gifted you, or re-allocate the equivalent amount in cash towards buying another item/items from any of the My List retail partners, and trust me, they have many to choose from!
And speaking of their partner list, it is insane. You can jump from leisure, travel, baby equipment, to luxury fashion, all under one platform. However, with that being said, I’d recommend emailing or contacting the stores on their partner list directly as there are thousands and thousands of products from the listed stores that aren’t actually displayed online.
To get up close and personal with their services, I met with Christina from the My List team to go through a couple of their partner stores located in Dubai Mall. Every shop had a dedicated employee that walked with us throughout the store and helped answer our questions about many products. Once we’d made our choices, the stores added these items to our My List registry page. Four hours of shopping later, we had settled on some stunning pieces from Galeries Lafayette, Bloomingdales and Marina Home.
Our My List personal shopping tour ended with a beautiful little gift; a personalized My List tote bag and a detailed brochure, this was just the cherry on top!
Ladies and Gentlemen, the only thing I can say is get ready to go wild when you see the vast variety of amazing furniture and home accessories My List have to offer….Happy Shopping!
Your 2020 Bride,
