Dates to avoid when planning your wedding in the UAE.
As expat brides caught up in the excitement of planning our weddings, we can sometimes overlook the small details, or even the bigger ones. Let’s face it, we have more to consider than the average bride. Fear not, we all miss a detail or two and there have been cases in the past where brides have unknowingly booked their wedding day on a key date in the Islamic calendar. Here, our expert panel member and wedding planner Clare Ebbs, founder of The Perfect Moment Dubai offers some sound advice when considering which date to block for your wedding.
If you’re looking for an outdoor wedding, avoid the summer season as it’s HOT, temperatures can reach up to 50 degrees. These months are June through to September but even in the high/cool season it is worth having a contingency plan in place for rain or a sandstorm. These can happen at any time of the year and you don’t want to panic on your wedding day!
In terms of dates to steer clear of, it is best to check the Islamic Calendar for any celebrations and public holidays (which could result in a ‘dry night’ and this can also sometimes mean no live music).
Dates for 2013 are:
Jun 05, 2013 | Wednesday | Lailat Al Miraj |
Jun 23, 2013 | Sunday | Lailat Al Bara’ah |
Jul 09, 2013 | Tuesday | Ramadan (start) |
Aug 03, 2013 | Saturday | Laylat Al Kadr |
Aug 08, 2013 | Thursday | |
Oct 14, 2013 | Monday | Waqf Al Arafa – Hajj |
Oct 15, 2013 | Tuesday | |
Nov 04, 2013 | Monday | |
Nov 13, 2013 | Wednesday | Day Of Ashura |
If you are planning on inviting guests from abroad then please also check the exact dates for Easter, summer vacations and half terms as people tend to come to Dubai over those periods, and it can get busy. Hotel rates will increase. Hotel rates will also increase during the event season and those that are popular in Dubai are: Dubai Rugby 7s, Dubai tennis tournament, Dubai Air show, Gitex and the F1.
Remember your special day is even more special if it goes smoothly. If you plan your dates right then everything else will be easier and you can sit back and enjoy the magic. I hope this article has helped you in some way and wish you all the best in your wedding planning.
