The Diary of a Real BCME Bride
Content. A word that is so hard to achieve. What I mean when I use the word ‘content’, is being happy with whatever you have and not wanting more.
When you first become a bride, it’s ALL about the wedding. The rings! The dress! The flowers! You start to look at what others brides have and feel the need to have the same. You become the centre of attention, the one everyone is talking about and you want to make it worth their while. You want to be the diamond among a thousand gems.
After some serious thinking, I can finally say I have hit the ground! I fell back down to earth with a bump. Ask me what I want for a wedding now? A simple dinner to make my parents happy would do. Ask me this same question fresh after my proposal months ago? I wanted a massive wedding, a designer wedding dress and only the best!

As for wedding gifts, I walk into most Arab households filled with Lalique, Baccarat and Villeroy & Boch items. And I can’t help asking myself if these luxury goods contribute in any way to their happiness and well-being? Also, the room would look so much nicer if it weren’t overrun by crystal knickknacks. I followed the status quo and sadly the Arab status quo is show off. I’ve decided against all that now.
I guess what I am trying to say is, there is nothing wrong in wanting a beautiful wedding, however it’s important to keep in mind what the wedding is essentially about; you, your fiancé and the love you share. Lately I have been on an emotional roller coaster and it’s been one hell of a Journey! Tune in next month for my final article and to find out what I am referring too. It’s going to be a good one!
With Love
