BCME are thrilled to bring you this up close and personal interview with one of the region’s most celebrated wedding planners, Jardel Silva, Founder of Event Chic Designs.
Known for his ultra chic and luxurious weddings, Jardel has carved out an illustrious career planning and designing the weddings of the region’s most glamorous Brides and Grooms.
We hope you enjoy meeting the man behind Event Chic Designs and some of the most extravagant weddings Dubai has ever seen…We certainly did!
♡ How long has Event Chic been established, and what makes you different from other wedding planners in the region?
Event Chic Designs took its form on 30th April 2015. It’s been 4 years now and we are very proud of our journey till date. Event Chic has constantly embraced change and growth to keep its finger on the pulse with industry trends, with the aim to be the best luxury wedding designer in the UAE and oversees. I am thrilled to announce that by popular demand and request, we have launched two new sub brands; Baby Chic, that will cater to all kids related events and Chic Rentals, a wide collection of new luxury furniture for events and weddings.
♡ What made you decide to work in weddings and events industry?
I began my career in the hospitality industry. It goes without saying that I am a people person and I truly enjoy working in a diverse environment. However with time, I came to discover my passion for weddings and there was no looking back after that. Design on the other hand is something that comes naturally to me. One thing led to another and I was fortunate enough to find the common grounds to make both my interests meet.
♡ What do you love most about your job?
I can confidently state that I love what I do and it is my passion that drives me. However, the part that truly counts and weighs in on my happiness is our client’s happiness; specially their expression and reaction when they see my designs come to life.
♡ What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Communication is the key. If not done right, things will truly take an ugly turn in this industry. Dubai has such a diverse network of people working in the industry that sometimes this poses as a challenge.
♡ Can you tell us a little bit about your design process?
Our design process revolves entirely around the couple. Our main goal is to thoroughly understand the couple’s requirements and take the time to translate their visions into reality. If you pay close attention to the little details and truly take the time to understand your couple, the rest of the design process will naturally shape itself to produce a successful wedding.
♡ What’s your biggest source of inspiration?
At Event Chic we always want our designs to sincerely define the couple and their personality/lifestyle. Having said this, I often derive my inspiration for designs from books, trending magazines, online blogs and articles. However, my main inspiration really does comes from the couple themselves. From the minute they walk into my office to the moment they say “I Do”, my team and I are constantly making an effort to understand the couple and incorporate this into our designs/services. The couple’s happiness is our utmost priority and we go to a great extent to achieve this.
♡ Do you have a personal favourite Dubai wedding venue?
Burj Al Arab is one of my personal favorite venues to work with. I have had the opportunity to plan and design multiple luxury weddings in their space and it goes without saying, the venue’s exceptional service, accessibility and ability to instantly put you at ease truly sets them apart from the rest of the hotels in the city.
♡ What’s your most favourite wedding you’ve ever worked on and why?
I recently planned and designed a wedding in Burj Al Arab on the 8th June 2019. The entire wedding was designed to bring out the Bride and Groom’s personality. The decor was very personal and true to their style and vision. It was a fusion wedding; the evening was planned to honor the Bride’s Brazilian culture while also staying true to the Groom’s Pakistani culture.
The ceremony tent was designed to have an entrance reception area which was covered in flowers from wall to ceiling and all around. The bridal entrance was the main focus of all our designs; a floral tunnel was created which extended into a 7-meter catwalk, aligned with florals on both sides. The inspiration for the decor was the Brazilian bride herself. We wanted the decor to truly define the couple and their glamorous lifestyle by adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to our designs.
The best, and my most favourite part, was that I was asked to be one of the Groomsmen, which truly makes this wedding very special and close to my heart.
♡ How did you start crossing over into Indian weddings as we can see you’re organising more and more Indian weddings these days?
I never limit myself when it comes to learning and exploring new opportunities. When the opportunity presented itself, I took the time to learn and really understand the cultural aspects of Indian weddings. The younger generation is always looking for ways to modernize and bring in new trends/styles to the decor while staying true to their cultural aspects. Which happens to be the perfect audience for Event Chic as we focus on personalizing weddings to truly define the couple and their lifestyle. Today I am very proud to say that not just Indian weddings, but when it comes to local Arab weddings and fusion weddings, I have the knowledge and experience to make the client feel comfortable enough to have the trust of putting their wedding in my hands.
♡ How do you manage trust from your clients? After all, it is the most important day of lives.
My knowledge, experience and personal attention to detail plays a major role in getting clients to trust me and my line of work.
♡ We see you’ve recently launched Baby Chic, can you tell us a bit more about this venture?
Baby Chic is a sub brand which took its form by popular demand and request by our existing clients. We are thrilled and excited to be partnering with local venues in Dubai to cater to luxury kids parties and special occasions. The brand is currently in its baby stage, however we are growing at a fast pace and have some exciting projects in the pipeline. Stay tuned, and keep a close eye on our instagram page to see us in action – @babychicevents.
♡ What budget do you cater for?
At Event Chic every project we do is custom designed to define the couple’s style, vision and personality. We do not limit our projects to fixed prices and budgets. I personally like to work around the client’s budget and requirements to bring out the best possible version of the wedding. Despite the pricing point we work with, we stay true to our tagline – ”Where passion meets perfection”.
♡ What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring wedding planners out there?
This industry is driven by passion. Let your passion drive you and the rest will fall into place, despite it being one of the most challenging industries to work in.
♡ What’s your number one tip for couples out there currently in the process of planning their big day?
Couple’s often make the mistake of choosing their wedding designer/planner at the end of the cycle. It is very important to meet and finalize the designer as the first step to planning a wedding. As designers, we take the time to understand the couple and their vision. Our experience, knowledge and strong network in the market plays a very important role in guiding the couple through a stress free journey; choosing the right venue and building the right set of team and vendors to produce the perfect wedding. Also, choosing the right designer/planner is essential. Choose someone you can personally connect with, someone you feel instantly comfortable with, and most importantly, choose a designer who you can trust.
