So, you have carefully chosen the date of your wedding, picked a venue, and you’re now probably on the hunt for your dream bridal gown too. But another vendor you don’t want to book too late is your makeup artist. Some artists are even booked 3-6 months prior to the wedding date! But before confirming your makeup artist, here are few tips to hopefully help you make this special decision.
♡ Which Makeup Artist will create your dream bridal look?
Nowadays there are countless platforms such as Bride Club ME, Instagram, or even a simple google search, to help you find your wedding makeup artist. But my advice would be once you’ve come across a makeup artist that you like the look of, make sure you check their portfolio of work, including previous brides, to ensure their style suits what you are trying to achieve on your special day.
Once you have made your first selection, which I think should include 2 – 3 different artists, you can then contact them directly for more information.
Keep in mind, that what you see on their website or Instagram might not be their entire portfolio. So you may need to ask them for their bridal portfolio, or to see more examples of their work.
And if you already have an idea of the makeup look you want to go for, then ask them if they have examples of similar looks they’ve created in the past. From this, you will have a better idea of which artist will be the best fit to create your gorgeous bridal beauty.
♡ Does their price range match your budget?
This is one of the first criteria you need to consider when embarking on the hunt for your wedding makeup artist – ESTABLISH WHAT YOUR BUDGET IS.
Some makeup artists have a fixed rate, others offer different packages. So, when you get in touch with your selected makeup artists, ask them what kind of rates do they offer and what does this include. Is it only for the makeup on the day? Does it include a trial before the wedding day? Do they offer a touch-up service in case you need some extra attention during your blessing or wedding reception?
Your makeup is as important as the venue or picking the right photographer. Of course you want to look camera ready and feel amazing for yourself, your new husband, your family and your guests, on one of the most important days of your life.
♡ Schedule a makeup trial before the big day!
On the day of your wedding you want to be as relaxed as possible and not have any nasty surprises! Hence doing a makeup trial before your wedding day is an absolute must, in my opinion.
The makeup trial is the opportunity for you to ensure that you and the makeup artist have the same vision for your dreamy bridal makeup. It is important that she/he understands what you have in mind, and is able to translate your vision into beautiful, flawless makeup.
It is also the time to see what products she/he will use on you and the work standard she/he delivers in terms of hygiene and cleanness of the products and tools, as well as the overall makeup look.
It shouldn’t only be about the makeup, but also how the makeup artist is preps your skin. Brides, you will get the best results if your skin has been well prepped. Therefore, the makeup artist should assess your skin before starting to create any bridal look on you, and they should carefully choose the skincare products based on your individual skin type. She/he should also choose the makeup products based on your skin type, skin tone and the general weather of where you’re celebrating your wedding (if the weather is hot and dry, or humid etc. this should effect which products are used).
All of the above will have an impact on how your makeup will last all day, and in some cases, all night too. Book your makeup trial in the morning so that you will wear the makeup for an entire day to really see how the makeup sets on your skin throughout a full day. Share your feedback with the makeup artist so that she/he will know what to adjust on the day of the wedding.
Remember, the most important thing is that the makeup you wear on your big day should make you feel AMAZING all day and all night long. Your wedding day is the day when you want your makeup to look perfect and flawless, so don’t compromise!
