This week we have the privilege of showcasing Melissa Orkamo, Founder of The Party. Below, Melissa provides us with an exclusive insight into the company (which also consists of Co-Founder Teemu Orkamo and Head Designer Tamsin Francey), tells us all about why she works in this industry, and shares with us what she loves the most about her job.
How long has The Party been established, and what makes your company different when it comes to wedding décor and gifts?
The Party was officially established at the beginning of 2016. We specialise in personalised wedding décor and gifts. We are unique because of the type and quality of the materials we use, which is sourced outside the UAE personally by us. We do all the designs and make the products locally, in Dubai.
What made you decide to work in the event décor industry?
It was our intention to work in the event décor industry, as our niche product is customised cake toppers. However, we saw the potential of what we can create, and this has been very exciting, allowing us to expand quickly into event décor.
What do you love most about your work?
The reactions of the clients! As we involve the client every step of the way, it is always so rewarding seeing and hearing what they thought of the items when received.
We are sent many e-mails of thanks and photographs of the products in use, which makes us so happy. We wish we could share all of them; most clients have requested privacy and discretion though so we are not able to share as many as we would like to.
It is also very rewarding being part of special events and celebrations and seeing the impact small and meaningful products can have.
As a team we really enjoy the creative aspects and love to feel challenged by our regular clients who can see the potential of what we can do. Of course, it does help that we really enjoy what we do and wish that there were more hours in the day!
What kind of options are there for brides in terms of wedding décor and gifts/favours, that The Party can help with?
We are able to assist with a very broad range of wedding décor and gifts / favours, from our signature cake toppers to table numbers, guest place cards, chair back signs, personalised favours, drink stirrers, badges for the bridal party, napkin ring holders, coasters, ring boxes, hanging marquee light signs, hanging signs and lots more.
Describe the experience a bride to-be will have when hiring The Party for her wedding?
Personalised service and attention to detail. We try and make every client feel like they are our only client. We make sure that each client is part of the process with regular updates and feedback. We limit the number of clients we take on so that our products and standards are not compromised, as we want our clients to feel valued and that they have a product that is special and can become a keepsake to treasure.
How do you manage trust from your clients? After all it is the most important day of their lives.
As mentioned above, we involve the clients every step of the way. We want them to enjoy dealing with us and feel special and valued. We have high attention to detail and quality control and will not send anything out that we are not 100% satisfied with. We have a wide range of quality materials for our clients to choose from, making sure that their items are unique to them and their special event.
If you could give one piece of wedding planning advice to our readers (brides to-be) what would it be?
It really helps if the bride-to-be has a good idea of what she wants, or has some inspirational images that she can share. Getting married is expensive, but well planned weddings, with a Bride who is organised and has a good idea of what she would like, does help to keep budgets on track.
What budgets do you cater for?
We cater for all budgets, however we do not use the locally available materials or veneers. We do not want to compromise on the quality of our designs and products by using inferior materials. If a Bride has a budget we can offer ideas and options that will suit her vision.
Lastly, why did you choose to list with www.brideclubme.com?
We have been working with BCME since it launched, and so are well known to the Founder, Rio. With the launch of The Party this year it made sense to consider listing with BCME, who have always been a great support to us.
