Honeymoon destination idea: St. Moritz
Here at BCME, we are always keen to suggest exciting honeymoon options as well as providing top tips for the big day itself. Today, we talk about some of our favourite activities in St. Moritz, demonstrating how it is a viable honeymoon destination for UAE couples. Located in the Swiss Alps with breathtaking scenery and a vibrant atmosphere, St. Moritz is a popular destination for newlyweds who want to experience a cooler climate. What’s more, there’s plenty of sporting and entertainment activities to keep you both occupied during your stay.
The alpine resort of St Moritz became popular in 1864, when hotelier James Badrutt encouraged his English summer guests to come back in the winter, promising them mild weather and winter pursuits. Over the last 150 years, new activities, such as kite-sailing on Lake Silvaplana, have been enjoyed all year round. Read on for some more exciting ideas that the two of you can enjoy.
Travel to Italy on the Bernina Express
We love the idea of this romantic train journey through the wilderness of alpine valleys, past glaciers and mountain peaks, through Puschlav and all the way to Tirano in Italy. The Bernina Express takes you across the Bernina pass, some 2,253m above sea level, and the Rhätischen Railway’s Bernina route was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
Indulge in a little luxury
After the stress of planning and organising your wedding, both you and your new husband will be in need of a little rest and relaxation. There are several activities in St Moritz to help you unwind, whether you savour the comforts of your hotel room, treat yourself to breakfast in bed, or gaze out the window and simply enjoy the fact that you’re there. If you really want to push the boat out, visit the OVAVERA Pool, Spa & Sports Centre, or enjoy the public spas at the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains or the Kulm Hotel.
Ride down the Corviglia flow trail
For couples who need a little adrenalin rush, St. Moritz’s local mountain, Corviglia, has become a veritable mountain bike paradise. There are new flow trails and even a “mountain bike rollercoaster” with banked curves, corrugations and jumps. The Corviglia flow trail is the most famous and is also suitable for less experienced riders. But be warned: the breathtaking panoramic views might distract you!
Take a taxi ride in a bobsleigh
The St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic bob run is the only natural ice bobsleigh track in the world. Bobsleigh taxi rides are offered daily following training sessions or races. The 1,722-metre-long track only takes around 75 seconds to complete, and at “horseshoe” corner you’ll experience a g-force of up to 4.5 G before reaching speeds as high as 135km per hour at the Martineau corner.
Go skiing – at night!
If you and your new husband are keen skiers, you won’t want to miss the Corvatsch Snow Night. During the winter months you can go skiing every Friday night until 2.00am on Switzerland’s longest illuminated ski run (4.2 km). Afterwards, there’s the chance to party at the legendary Hossa Bar.
High tea in the lobby at Badrutt’s Palace Hotel
High Tea will be a welcome indulgence after burning so many calories on the slopes. Experience the grandeur of the historic and luxurious Badrutt’s Palace Hotel from the comfort of a cosy armchair as you enjoy a range of culinary delights.
Hit the shops
Finally, Via Serlas is St. Moritz’s answer to Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles for shopping fanatics. From Chanel and Gucci to Louis Vuitton, you can shop at internationally renowned fashion houses along this stylish shopping boulevard. You’ll also find more major labels and boutiques in the village center. It’s the perfect chance to buy some honeymoon souvenirs!
