Pro Tips from Celebrity Make-up Artist-Sophie Hendra
You must have thought about everything, ranging from the style of the gown, footwear, wedding décor, to the type of bridal make up you want to have. But did you take into consideration; that in a hot and humid climate (like the UAE), chances are, that your make up could end up looking cakey, false, and even end up melting away or fading!
We asked our expert panel member, make-up artist ‘Sophie Hendra’ to come to the rescue and she lovingly obliged. Here’s her advice and tips for every bride who wants to look; and feel like a queen on her big day.
Who you are? What do you do?
I am a British Professional Make-up Artist. I use professional airbrushing to keep the make-up intact, best suited for hot and humid, tropical weddings. My signature style along with airgun and compressor techniques, gives a natural look with HD photo finishing.
What adverse effect can the climate have on the makeup, if you are getting married in the UAE or any other wedding destination with similar climate?
In the hot, humid and often dusty climate of the UAE, makeup is tested to its limit. With extreme heat, and unrelenting humidity, makeup can literally feel like it’s slipping off your face and moving around.
But with today’s beauty technology, there are many products in the market that help makeup stay long.
What are the certain measures that a bride-to-be can take to keep her make-up intact?
Tip 1: A tailored primer is a great base to wedding make-up. Choose from a diverse range of skin types and colour corrections. Primer will prevent skin from absorbing talc; and pigment from the foundation. Don’t forget to pick up an eyelid primer as well.
What we say?- Primer is your best friend!
Tip 2: A good quality powder that doesn’t flash back on camera; is a savior in many ways. Check for lightweight, mineral formulations without SPF to avoid looking like a ghost!
What we say?– Powder is Power!
Tip 3: Layer products to avoid melting and running fine lines with make-up. Remember, that other than using fantastic waterproof formulations, certain make-up elements applied one on top of another can prolong your bridal makeup. E.g. apply lip-liner all over the lip as a base, and make sure lipsticks are bloated on tissue and re-applied. For gloss, ask a friend or bridesmaid to dab a little at the center of the lower lip, minutes before the ceremony.
What we say?– Layer and Liven!
Tip 4: Make-up fixing mists go a long way in setting the overall make-up; and increasing its staying power. It removes all chances of a cakey look.
What we say?– Fixing mists for the perfect Miss!
Sophie Hendra on professional airbrushing for brides, and how it can help a bride who chooses to have an outdoor wedding
No bride would decline a natural, flawless, long lasting make-up! The intelligent bride will take into account the adverse reflection of a failing makeup in the photographs and videos.
With digital photography and HD recording, standard make-up can look far too heavy. In this scenario, brides should opt for professional airbrushing to apply the makeup base. By using an airbrush, the micronized make-up is dispersed so finely that it can barely be seen.
This technique is best for outdoor weddings as it is water resistant. No amount of tears or perspiration will cause a make-up mishap. Moisture can be blotted away and after 18 hours of wear it will remain as good as new! The best part? Airbrushing can cover birthmarks, scars and tattoos.
