Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding. Not only will it likely account for a significant portion of your overall wedding budget, but it can also influence everything from your guest list and wedding date to your décor, entertainment and even what you wear.
The good news is that couples planning a wedding in Dubai are spoilt for choice. From luxury beachfront resorts and glamorous hotel ballrooms to desert venues, private estates, restaurants and contemporary event spaces, Dubai offers wedding venues to suit almost every style and celebration.
But with so many options available, how do you choose the right one? Before falling in love with beautiful Instagram images or rushing to secure a popular date, there are some important questions every couple should ask.
Here are 12 questions to ask before booking your wedding venue in Dubai.
Is Our Preferred Wedding Date Available?
It may sound obvious, but before getting too invested in a venue, check whether your preferred wedding date is available. If you have some flexibility, ask the venue to provide a selection of available dates. Certain days of the week and times of year can be particularly popular for weddings in Dubai, so having a few options may make your search easier.
If you’re planning your wedding around the availability of a specific wedding planner, photographer or other supplier, check their availability too before signing your venue contract.
What Is the Venue’s Maximum Capacity?
Always ask how many guests the venue can comfortably accommodate for the style of wedding you’re planning. There can be a big difference between the maximum capacity for a standing cocktail reception and a seated wedding dinner with a dance floor, stage, entertainment and large-scale décor.
Think carefully about your estimated guest list and ask to see previous wedding layouts where possible. A ballroom that can technically accommodate 500 guests may feel completely different when staging, production, entertainment and décor are added.
What Is Included in the Wedding Package?
Never assume that everything you see during a venue tour is included in the quoted price. Ask for a detailed breakdown of exactly what your wedding package includes.
This may cover food and beverages, tables, chairs, linens, basic sound equipment, staging, lighting, menu tastings, bridal suites or complimentary accommodation.
Understanding what is and isn’t included will help you compare venues more accurately and avoid unexpected costs later.
Is There a Minimum Spend or Minimum Number of Guests?
Many Dubai wedding venues have minimum spending requirements or minimum guest numbers, particularly during peak wedding season and on popular dates. Make sure you understand exactly how the minimum spend works.
Does it apply only to food and beverages? Are venue hire fees charged separately? What happens if your final guest count is lower than expected? Ask these questions before paying your deposit.
What Is the Plan B for an Outdoor Wedding?
Dreaming of a beach, garden, rooftop or desert wedding in Dubai? Always ask about the venue’s weather contingency plan.
While Dubai is known for its sunshine, unexpected rain, wind, humidity and extreme temperatures can all affect outdoor celebrations. Ask to physically see the alternative indoor space rather than simply being told that one is available.
Most importantly, make sure you would actually be happy holding your wedding there. Your Plan B should feel like a genuine alternative, not an afterthought.
Are We Required to Use the Venue’s Preferred Suppliers?
Some wedding venues in Dubai have preferred or approved supplier lists. This may apply to wedding planners, florists, production companies, entertainment suppliers, photographers or other wedding professionals.
Ask whether you’re free to bring in your own suppliers and whether additional charges apply if you choose someone who isn’t on the venue’s preferred list (This is rare, but its work checking). If you’ve already booked certain wedding suppliers, make sure they’re permitted to work at the venue before signing your contract.
Are There Any Restrictions on Décor and Production?
Before creating a Pinterest board filled with elaborate floral installations, suspended décor and spectacular staging, find out what your venue actually allows. Some venues have restrictions surrounding candles, hanging installations, fireworks, confetti, heavy structures and access times for production teams.
You should also ask how early suppliers can access the venue for setup and how quickly everything needs to be removed after the wedding.
This is particularly important if you’re planning a wedding with extensive décor or technical production.
What Are the Entertainment and Noise Restrictions?
Entertainment can completely transform the atmosphere of a wedding, but different venues may have different rules. Ask whether there are restrictions on live bands, DJs, drums or other forms of entertainment.
Outdoor venues may have specific noise restrictions or times when music needs to be reduced or stopped. If you’re dreaming of dancing into the early hours of the morning, this is definitely something to establish before booking.
What Parking and Transport Options Are Available?
Guest experience matters. Ask whether the venue offers complimentary parking, valet parking or easy access for taxis and other transport services.
If you’re hosting a destination wedding in Dubai, consider how easily international guests can travel between their accommodation and your wedding venue. For venues located outside the main areas of the city, you may want to consider arranging group transportation.
Is Accommodation Available for Us and Our Guests?
If you’re getting married at a Dubai hotel or resort, ask whether special accommodation rates are available for wedding guests. You should also find out whether a complimentary room or suite is included for the couple as part of the wedding package.
For destination weddings, having guests stay at the same venue can make the overall experience much easier and create more opportunities to spend time together before and after the wedding day.
However, it’s always worth comparing the group rate offered by the venue with other publicly available rates before asking guests to book.
Are There Any Other Weddings or Events Taking Place on the Same Day?
Depending on the size of the hotel or venue, multiple weddings and events may take place on the same day. This isn’t necessarily a problem, but it’s worth understanding how the venue manages simultaneous events.
Will your guests have a private entrance? Could another wedding be taking place in the ballroom next door? Will you have exclusive access to certain areas for photographs?
If privacy and exclusivity are particularly important to you, make sure you discuss this during your venue tour.
What Is the Payment and Cancellation Policy?
Before signing anything, carefully review the venue’s payment schedule, cancellation terms and refund policies. Ask how much deposit is required to secure your date, when additional payments are due and what happens if you need to postpone or cancel your wedding.
You should also understand what happens to your payments in the event of circumstances outside your control. Never feel pressured to sign a contract immediately.
Take the time to read the terms carefully, ask questions and seek clarification on anything you don’t fully understand.
Don’t Choose Your Dubai Wedding Venue Based on Instagram Alone
Beautiful photographs are a great place to start your wedding venue search, but they don’t tell the whole story. The right wedding venue needs to work for your guest list, budget, preferred suppliers, entertainment, décor requirements and overall vision.
Think about the practical elements as much as the aesthetics. Visit the venue in person whenever possible, ask plenty of questions and request a detailed written proposal before making your final decision.
