Getting that glow is perhaps the most popular request I get from my bridal clients. And my number one answer for getting it right is always the same –perfect your skincare routine, ensuring it suits your skin type and concerns. A good skincare routine will change everything and make for a better makeup application.
A great way to step into a good routine is by adding a monthly (4-6 week) facial treatment from a licensed center.
There are a few good brands and treatments out there for facials but my main objective was to try the type of treatment that I know would benefit brides to get that perfect glowing skin before their big day.
‘Pro Skin Perfect’ Series – The Dermalogica Facial
For my monthly dose of derma-love, I decided to go to the Dermalogica centre located in the Dubai Mall to try their ‘Pro Skin Perfect’ treatment from their customized advanced skin treatments. As we all know, on your wedding day, ALL EYES will be on you, the bride. I wanted to make sure that I went to an established brand with a concrete reputation based on years of science informing their products, to present a facial option that could be useful to all skin types.
For this reason, I felt the Dermalogica facial ‘Pro Skin Perfect’ series would best suit my bridal clients’ needs.
You can combine different aspects of their three treatments to get the best result for you:
- Microdermabrasion – For exfoliation and resurfacing. Microdermabrasion brings about rapid improvements in skin texture as well as improving circulation and in turn, healing.
- Microcurrent – This is a non-invasive alternative to a face-lift and will leave you skin feeling firmer and smoother.
- Oxygen treatment – An ultra-hydrating treatment with an infusion of age-defying products to address ageing skin, fine lines and wrinkles
- LED Light Therapy – Details on this below.
Follow my journey on my Dermalogica experience by watching the video below.
I started with a skin analysis with one of the Dermalogica therapists where we discussed my skin concerns & conditions and she assessed the level of damage with requirements. After which, she prescribed the following treatment combination:
*Microdermabrasion (but a lighter version of it as I did a similar facial not long ago) combined with their Oxygen Treatment to battle dehydration and fine lines, along with red LED light therapy.
My therapist, ‘Mpoh’, started with cleansing my skin by removing my makeup using Dermalogica’s Pre-cleansing oil, as well as using their Daily Micro-exfoliant – a rice-based powder that reacts with water to release papain, salicylic acid and rice enzymes that polish the skin.
The first phase of the treatment was a deep cleansing and skin extraction which was followed by the 2nd phase, to rehydrate my skin. For phase 2, the therapist used a hyaluronic acid-based serum as well as a mask infused with 99% of pure oxygen. Oxygen helps increase products performance as well as stimulating your skin’s natural production of hyaluronic production.
The final step of the treatment is to have LED Light therapy. For this part there are 2 options:
- Blue LED light, recommended to improve acne-prone skin and prevent breakouts by killing the bacteria causing the congestion.
- Red LED Light, to help blood circulation and collagen production, as well as tissue repair, skin ageing scars and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and age spots.
I decided to go for the Red LED light treatment, as fine lines are a main concern of mine.
Overall my experience at Dermalogica was really good. The team was very welcoming and they explained to me everything about the facial treatment I was doing before we start. At the end of the treatment, I felt relax and my skin was fresh and really hydrated. See for yourself and watch the video to see my results.
A word to the wise: Keep in mind that each person’s skin is unique and therefore your skin might need some more time to adjust to the treatment after having it done. If this is the first time for you to go for a facial treatment or use Dermalogica products, I would advise you to do it over two separate sessions. 1st time around 8 – 6 weeks before your wedding or event. 2nd time around 4 weeks prior to your wedding or event This will help get the best result out of the treatment and give you the confidence that your skin needs.
