Wedding dress shopping in 2026 looks very different to how it did even five years ago. With modern brides embracing more intimate celebrations, destination weddings, multiple outfit changes and conscious consumption, the age-old question is being asked more than ever: should you rent your wedding dress or buy it?
At Bride Club ME, we speak to brides across the UAE every day who are planning weddings that reflect their lifestyle, values and personal style, not outdated expectations. From elopements and civil ceremonies to luxury destination weddings and chic city celebrations, today’s brides are approaching bridal fashion with flexibility, freedom and intention.
To explore this shift, we caught up with Anna Gedman from You & I Bridal, who shares her honest insight into what brides are really choosing in 2026 when it comes to renting vs buying a wedding dress, and why there is no longer a one-size-fits-all answer.

Wedding Dress Renting vs Buying: What Brides Are Really Choosing In 2026
This is a question I am asked more than ever, and the answer is not as clear-cut as it once was. Should you rent your wedding dress or buy it?
For decades, buying a wedding gown was considered a given. You found the dress, you purchased it, you preserved it, and it became part of your personal history. But today’s brides are approaching weddings differently. They are redefining tradition, rewriting expectations, and choosing what feels right for their lives rather than what feels obligatory. And that shift has opened the door to rental in a meaningful way.
Rental is growing because modern weddings look different. Elopements, destination ceremonies, city hall “I dos,” and intimate gatherings are increasingly common. These celebrations often call for something less formal, more flexible, and sometimes more fashion-forward. Renting allows brides to access beautiful, on-trend gowns without the pressure of long-term ownership.
There is also a broader cultural shift at play. Circular fashion, sustainability, and conscious consumption have moved from niche conversations to mainstream values. Many brides are perfectly comfortable wearing a dress once, loving it fully in that moment, and then letting it go. For them, the meaning is in the experience, not in the preservation.
Rental offers ease. It removes concerns about storage, cleaning, and what happens to the dress after the wedding. It can also make high-end design more accessible, giving brides the chance to wear a look that might otherwise be out of reach. And yet, buying still matters. Deeply.
For many brides, owning their wedding dress is not just a purchase. It is an emotional milestone. There is something profoundly special about knowing that no one else has worn your gown. That it was chosen for you, fitted to your body, and created for this singular moment in your life.
Buying a dress allows for full personalisation. Alterations, custom details, added sleeves, changed necklines, special linings, embroidery that carries meaning. These touches transform a beautiful gown into your gown. It becomes a physical representation of your story, your taste, your identity.
For some, the dress becomes a keepsake. It is stored carefully, passed down, reworked into an anniversary piece, or simply kept as a tangible reminder of a day that changed everything. The emotional value often outweighs the practical one.
What we are seeing more of now is not an either-or choice, but a blending of both.
Many brides are purchasing a ceremony gown and then renting or buying a second look for later in the day. Minis, slip dresses, tailored suits, and party-ready silhouettes are becoming part of the modern bridal wardrobe. Outfit changes are no longer extravagant exceptions. They are expressions of personality. And this, perhaps, is the real story. There is no right or wrong answer.
Some brides will treasure a dress for a lifetime. Some will wear it once and move forward. Some will transform it into something new. Some will rent from start to finish. All of these choices are valid.
In 2026, bridal fashion is no longer about rigid rules. It is about personal freedom. It is about intention. It is about choosing what aligns with your vision, your values, and your version of a meaningful wedding day.
Because the most important thing is not whether you rent or buy.
It is that, when you look in the mirror, you feel like yourself.
