This week we have the privilege of showcasing founding partners Sara and Soha from Gourmelicious, who provide custom cakes, for all occasions including weddings. Sara and Soha provide us with exclusive insight into the company Gourmelicious, their approach to wedding cake designing and baking, and share with us what they love the most about their job.
- How long has your company been established and what do you do?
We started providing artistic cakes and delicious desserts in February 2012.
- What do you love most about your work?
The creativity, being able to do something special and unique for someone and make them happy.
- Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs and is there a current trend with wedding cakes?
As designers, we’re always inspired by nature, interior design & fashion. Usually it’s the client that brings inspiration, be it the wedding venue, theme, color scheme or the wedding gown. The current trend in wedding cakes is lace. It’s also the trend in wedding gowns, and so the wedding cake is inspired by it. Another desired element in wedding cakes in the past few years is the shining touches of gold or silver here and there.
- Do you have any exciting projects, events; weddings coming up that you are providing cakes for?
We will be providing a cake for a wedding out of the country and we are very excited and looking forward to this. Let’s keep this a surprise. ;)
- What makes your business different from other cake designers and bakeries in the region?
When we first started the business, we noticed that in this part of the world, the wedding cake was not considered a very important aspect of the wedding. The wedding cake is a decorative focal point of the wedding, as significant as every other detail. We are artists and designers originally, so we look at cake as an art. We love what we do and provide the best quality. Coming from a family of bakers that have been in the business back home since 1940’s; we’ve inherited the passion for baking.
The taste of our cake is as equally important to us as the looks. We also consider making our cakes very personal to our clients and brides, a cake that will represent them in design & flavour. After speaking to the bride, we help her gain a vision of how her wedding cake will look through hand sketches.
- How can our readers (Brides) benefit from your service and what sort of information do you require when meeting prospective clients for the first time?
Brides are always welcome to meet with us for a tasting session, that’s when we’ll talk about many aspects of the wedding. We will usually ask about the wedding theme, style & venue. We encourage clients to bring colour swatches or any images they can provide, like pictures of the gown or flowers, and any personal pieces of information.
As designers, we are able to figuratively incorporate these aspects of the couple’s personality into the cake. It’s best to know if the bride goes with the tradition of freezing her cake till her first anniversary. If so, We give her advice on what flavors are best frozen. If a bride comes to us with an idea we aren’t in love with, we’re really honest about it.
It is very important that we create authentic designs that represent her. Every little detail counts. The relationship we establish with our brides, doesn’t end at the wedding day. We’ve been blessed with meeting such lovely brides & we will continue to serve them through special moments like baby showers and wedding anniversary.
- If you could give one piece of advice to expat brides to-be, what would it be?
We recommend that a bride books her baker nine months to a year away from her wedding date, also rather than going to a designer with a design and a budget, give the designer a style and a budget and let them offer their suggestions.
A final piece of advice would be to go with a cake design that is suitable and coherent with the wedding theme, personal to you and something that you love. A wedding cake is a decorative centerpiece that represents you and your groom, it is a symbolic expression of love by sharing a piece of it in that special moment with your loved ones.
- Lastly, why did you choose to list with www.brideclubme.com?
We love making wedding cakes the most. It’s what we have passion for & so Bride Club ME is the one stop where brides will find us. It shines the light on the most professional vendors in the UAE.
