Baby Club ME: It’s a BOY! Rio’s baby journey after marriage
Hi lovelies,
Well, as you can tell from the title, we have found out the sex of our baby! Adam and I opted to find out earlier than the typical 16 weeks by having a test known as the ‘Panorama blood test’. This blood test assesses the risk of having a baby with Downs Syndrome, of which I have a slightly increased chance since in medical terms I am an ‘older’ first time mummy at 35 years of age. Thankfully, the test results came back as low risk, with a symbol to also confirm that we are having a little boy! We had the test privately, and it was pricey at 2800AED, but totally worth it with an accuracy of 99.9%. I had secretly hoped for a little princess, but as soon as I found out it was a boy, I just burst with joy….my little prince, so exciting!
In fact, the day and evening leading up to getting the results was quite emotional. Without being too graphic, I spotted some blood and immediately panicked. I called out for Adam and he reassured me, started Googling ‘blood at 13 weeks’ and calmed me down. We were both very nervous due to my previous miscarriage. I called my Obs/Gynae Dr Jozsa at 9.30pm and he told me to keep calm, and to come into the Health Bay Polyclinic first thing in the morning when he would fit me in, in between patients, for a check-up scan.
Adam could not come with me, so I went alone. As I sat in the clinic, the tears just flowed. I tried to remain positive, but it was not easy. I prayed, like I had never prayed before.
When my name was called, I took a deep breath, walked in and saw Dr Jozsa, who told me to relax, and that he was going to check on my bean. I could not look at the screen, and focused on the Doctor’s face. As soon as I heard the tone in his voice and saw his smile, I cried with relief. “Your baby is fine, moving around lots and growing perfectly,” he said as he turned the screen to show me a 4D image of my boy, jumping around and waving! It was the first time I had seen my baby so perfectly formed, as previously he was hiding due to my tilted uterus at the time. I was overcome with emotion!
I left the clinic, hopped into a cab, and as always, quickly checked my emails. The results of the blood test were in early and I found out that we were having boy! I called Adam and we had a teary chat, as I told him all was healthy and that he was going to have a son! I think the cab driver got a little teary too, haha, and he congratulated me.
So, I am now 16 weeks pregnant, and my lovely friend Darine (whose baby shower I arranged) kindly offered to host a gender reveal for me at her house a few weeks ago. I kept the sex of the baby a secret from my best friends here in Dubai until the big reveal. I organised the cake, made by Sugaholic, and had a custom-made topper created by BCME vendor Melissa at The Party. It was a chilled affair at my friend’s flat with six of my closest Dubai girlfriends and their little rascals!
Now that the cat is out of the bag, I can crack on with shopping and will start slowly decorating the nursery from September. Being a home décor nerd, I can’t wait to get cracking and have a Pinterest board on the go already. I can’t wait to share the progress with you all. He-he!
My Mummy and God Mummy have now arrived in Dubai, and I’m really enjoying all of their wise motherly advice. I have a feeling I’m going to need it!
Until next time
