This week we have the privilege of showcasing Gul Hassan, who will provide us with exclusive insight into his role as Managing Director, founder and photographer at Gul Photography.

• How long has your company been established and what do you do?

We have been creating portraits and telling stories for our clients since 2008. Last year we secured status as an LLC in Dubai. We pride ourselves on being a cutting edge photography company, offering the most recent advances in the photography and cinematography. We are well versed in the latest trends and client preferences. Our approach is contemporary and always in the best of taste. We strive for the perfect combination of timeless elegance and fresh style.

• What do you love most about your work?

The ability to stop time and tell the story of a moment. I get the opportunity to be welcomed into the lives of a new family or a couple, share some of their beautiful moments and create one of their very first family heirlooms.

By the end of the day we become friends and its great being in touch with them long after their wedding, watching their family grow and creating more photographic memories for them as the bride and groom become parents.

• Do you have any excit­ing projects com­ing up?

We have just started creating short films for our brides and grooms to be. It’s an exciting project and we look forward to creating more of these unique stories.

We are working to launch a special event as part of our anniversary in the coming month. Here three recent brides will get the opportunity to have their bridal sessions made over by us together with other industry specialists. We will be looking for brides who had a bad experience with their images. The concept is to use the experience of the brides as a test case and advise  future brides to be on their selection process for the most important aspects of their special day i.e. photography and video. More details will be shared soon on our social media and blog.

• Do you have a favourite ceremony and / or reception location in the UAE?

My personal favourites are outdoor and intimate weddings. In terms of venues, the Burj Al Arab and Address Downtown are my favourites.

• Describe your style and approach to photography:

Our focus is derived photo journalism i.e.  taking the best of traditional photography and infusing it with a journalistic approach, limiting the number of posed and staged photographs and try instead to highlight the laughter, tears, and passion that the couple, their family and guests will be feeling without our heavy involvement. We understand that each couple is unique in their style, personality, and biography and we strive to produce images that reflect that individuality.

We believe our job is to capture that magic in the most authentic way – unobtrusively, honestly, joyfully.

• How can our readers (Brides) benefit from your service?

We encourage brides to be to meet us, grab a cup of coffee and get a real sense of who we are. We will be happy to consult with them about their needs, answer any questions they may have and show them what is possible.

We also undertake 20 min sessions for brides and grooms to get to know us and our style more as part of our consultation process. This way they get the opportunity of firsthand experience.

• If you could give one piece of advice to expat brides to-be, what would it be?

Your wedding is a very special time in your life, make sure you enjoy it.

Get the best photographer you can and do not settle for the cheapest as the person or company you invest in will be busy creating memories for you that you are going to cherish for years to come.

Remember, your wedding album is your very first family heirloom and represents the start of your brand new family. A good photographer will make sure, years from now, you’ll continue to enjoy sharing your wedding album with family and friends.
