Expert Advice: Bridal Make-Up Trends To Look Out For This Year

In her first expert post for the BCME expert panel, our new bridal beauty expert The Louise Monique discusses the make-up trends that you can expect to see this year in terms of application techniques and colour. As a bride-to-be, it can be difficult to know whether to embrace current trends or to instead opt for a classic, timeless look. Fortunately, Louise has broken down the expected trends of 2017 for us, so that you can pick and choose what suits you best. Enjoy!

Bridal trends come and go but the classics never go out of style. This year, we can expect some unexpected trends that, surprisingly, will take your bridal make-up look to the next level.

Skin and Base

It’s all about that youthful and dewy finish. There’s a fine line between the dewy look and just looking oily and sweaty. If you have oily skin, make sure that during your consultation with your make-up artist you disclose all your skin issues and concerns so that your artist can formulate a fool-proof way to apply your make-up on your special day.

Highlighting is the name of the game! Highlighting was big in 2016, but it wasn’t ready to make its mark just yet. Remember to highlight the high points of your face, where the light hits first, such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bones and cupid’s bow.

Another option to look at is airbrush make-up. A popular choice for bridal make-up, it’s a make-up application technique that uses a machine to apply the products. The difference between traditional make-up application and the airbrush technique is that airbrush make-up stays on for up to fourteen hours, making it perfect for any season. Even during the summer, your make-up will not melt! Your skin will look flawless but not like a mask – think real life Photoshop. Your photographer will thank you!

Eyes

Peach and pinks are dominating the bridal scene this year. These colours add an unexpected element to your bridal look. Paired with pink, rosy lips, this completes the dream fairytale wedding.

The eyeliner trend for 2017 is thin cat eyes. Outlining your eyes thinly and arching up the tail ever so slightly will give depth to draw attention to your eyes.

Brows

Thick brows are still in for 2017, so don’t over pluck your brows just yet. Brows frame your face, so it’s important for them to be symmetrical and neatly shaped. Strong brow game definitely draws the attention to your eyes, which goes perfectly with the on-trend pink eyeshadow for that ‘out-of-a-fairytale’ look.

Blush

Pinks are still on trend when it comes to the blush game. The ‘blushing bride’ look never goes out of style, and I guess the youthful and happy glow will always be a key look for any wedding day.

Lips

Matte lips reigned in 2016, but gloss is slowly taking over again. Pink tones that match your eyeshadow is the latest trend, paired with that glossy lips for a fuller-lipped effect.

Trends are great for reference but, ladies, remember that whatever look you’re going for, your wedding photos and videos will stay forever.
