A Fashion-Focused Styled Shoot By Similitude Photography & Bhumika Make Up
Details such as jewellery and lingerie are often overlooked when busy brides-to-be are planning their wedding, so we were thrilled to receive this recent styled shoot from Similitude Photography. Focusing on those small but significant fashion details, the shoot took place at the Renaissance Dubai and was the result of a collaboration between Similitude Photography and Dubai and London based makeup artist Bhumika Makeup.
The shoot also involved some of our very own vendors, namely The Flower Market and Lasya Intimates DXB. We just love the incredibly pretty details and the two different looks for our gorgeous bride! Read on to find out more from both Similitude Photography and Bhumika Makeup, and to view further images below. Enjoy!
A Note From The Photographer
This styled shoot was a first for me and came about after Dubai and London based hair and makeup artist Bhumika reached out on Instagram. The ball got rolling pretty quickly after that. The initial concept couldn’t be pulled together in time, so we adapted. Luckily we were able to line up some great vendors in a short space of time.
I’d been to the Renaissance Downtown Hotel recently and loved the design and spaces, and with the Burj Khalifa backdrop, it seemed like the perfect location for a contemporary, fresh shoot. Once the venue and date had been confirmed, everything else fell into place.
The model and I went to Vanila Boutique in JLT to find the perfect dress. Even though it was for a styled shoot, we were given a full bridal fitting experience! The staff were pivotal in providing a dress to compliment the mood board.
Of course, you cannot have a bridal gown without bridal lingerie. Lasya Intimates kindly supplied an array of beautiful lingerie and a gorgeous robe. Owner Rachel D’Gama was on hand to assist with styling.
The finishing touches were a luscious non-traditional bouquet from the team at The Flower Market and diamonds from Thamina Jewellery. Rachael Wood and I picked out a selection of jewellery we thought would work best with the dress. Rachael also brought some of her own designs (skulls and crowns from NYGP Boutique) for an edgy look.
Lastly, I feel personalisation at weddings is key, and I had the perfect person in mind to provide the little details. Stephenie from SG Letters hand-lettered vow books, a hanger and a jewellery tray in luxurious gold for the shoot.
A shoot like this is a real team effort, and I was glad that Rachel and Rachael could both join Bhumika and I on the day. They all brought great energy to the shoot, so the day flew by. It goes to show the importance of choosing your vendors carefully – if you’re going to be spending a lot of time with people, you want to ensure that you all get on well.
A Note From The Make Up Artist
Being born and raised in Dubai, beauty and fashion was always in me which is why I was able to take this forward when I moved to London. Initially, the concept I had in mind for the shoot was to create an Arabian bridal look more like in the desert, as typically that’s what most people imagine when they think of Dubai. However, things changed and so did the concept. Simi communicated with me regarding the type of vendors that had agreed to be a part of the shoot which got me excited to change the concept. Moreover, I will never say no when a white wedding dress is involved!
With a stunning location like Renaissance and the amazing jewellery from Thamina, I thought, ‘Why not bring a contemporary look to the bride?’ I had not seen the jewellery, lingerie or other vendors before, but thankfully Simi communicated the details which brought an awesome concept to my lookbook.
The first look was more about being soft and dewy, making the bride look very pretty with a natural flawless finish, just how a bride would like to feel when she’s walking down the aisle to her man.
The second part of the look was a more defined, bronzed look, featuring prominent contouring and sleek hair with a low updo to showcase the edgy jewellery and the lingerie from Lasya Intimates.
Despite having never met anybody from the shoot before, this was an awesome smooth day for us all and felt like we were all part of a real wedding!
