Get fit with ‘Healthy 4 U’ personal training
I’m a staunch believer that the way to a healthier, slimmer body is to exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. While body treatments, wraps and the rest can offer a boost, they must be seen as ‘quick’ fixes rather than long term solutions.
When our expert panelist Tim Garrett, from ‘Healthy 4 U’, contacted me to offer a review of their personal training services, the call could not have come at a better time.
Tim Garrett, is a health and fitness coach, and founder of ‘Healthy 4 U’. Tim and his team have trained numerous brides-to-be, to achieve the perfect shape for their big day.
Offering a specific training protocol, coupled with holistic lifestyle coaching, Tim makes sure that brides-to-be get fit and remain fit. Recently I have been feeling sick and lethargic quite often, and much of this is due to lack of exercise and some of the things I was eating. While I’ve always enjoyed a healthy diet, I do have weaknesses and so, with my impending wedding looming, I saw it as an incentive to kick start my lifestyle change. I conducted my first personal training review.
The consultation:
My personal trainer for the day, from the ‘Healthy 4 U’ team was Gary. Originally from London, UK. Gary is personable, knowledgeable and made me feel at ease immediately. Before we set out to do any type of physical activity, I sat down with Gary to conduct a consultation. This included discussing my sleeping patterns, water intake, food consumption, stress levels, physical activity, and so on.
I had previously informed Tim that I have a thin retina, and have been warned by previous eye specialists to avoid jogging in case of a detached retina. Tim took this seriously, and adapted any workout plans they had in mind for me accordingly.
The assessment:
Once my consultation was finished, then came the assessment. Yes, deep down I was aware, but on paper I was shocked. Insomnia, low energy, very bad eating patterns in terms of eating little during the day and then being starving at night, low amounts of exercise and in general just very poor lifestyle choices, albeit unintentionally.
On a positive note, I eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, and have a previous history of being very active, in addition to no real serious aliments or medical issues.
A good canvas to work with according to Gary. And so began my first session.
The workout:
We started with some gentle warm ups, to get the muscles ready for physical activity after a long time of being ‘inactive’. My objective is to change my lifestyle gradually and slowly, and of course, I’ll admit it, I want to look fit, toned and healthy on my wedding day in November, and continue this forever.
Gary suggested focusing on intense, on/off one hour workouts combining cardio and muscle strengthening.
My first routine consisted of:
- Cycling 5mins warm-up followed by 10x intervals (30secs fast/30seconds slow)
- Chest press
- Squats
- Single arm row
- Peterson step-ups
- Shoulder press
Followed with some core focused exercises.
The outcome:
Following on from my review, I was given a document with tips and advice, in addition to the recommended workouts I should do on my alone days. I have since been designed a gym program from Gary to follow according to my needs. Basically, having regular exercise three days a week, which is the recommended average for most people.
It has now been 3 weeks since I started exercising and following my routine, I don’t do scales, so I have no idea how much weight I have lost. However, after gradually making a concerted effort to go to bed earlier, cooking and eating cleaner/healthier foods, in addition to my regular work-outs, I have noticed changes already. I have more energy, I look and feel more toned and have received comments from people at work about looking slimmer, which is always great to hear.
I couldn’t recommend ‘Healthy 4 U’ enough, and although Gary has since left the company I can assure you that the company is professional and will help you change your outlook on fitness and health in general.
They are thorough with their consultations, and adapt their workouts according to your needs and expectations, and will tell you if your expectations are too high if needed.
