How long has Rebekah’s Bespoke Tailoring been established and what can you offer brides-to-be in terms of their perfect wedding attire?
Rebekah’s Bespoke was established in December 2015. With all eyes on the Bride, the bridal gown sets the tone for the wedding. We work with the finest fabrics and laces, the purest chiffons and silks; from styles beautiful in their simplicity, to the most elaborate embroidery, ruching, lace and crystal applique, to create the bride’s indisputably unique style.
We offer body shape analysis as part of our bridal consultation to help brides-to-be make a sound and informed decision about choosing a pattern and silhouette that compliments her body type, for one of the most important days of her life!
Although bridal gown trends constantly change to reflect trends in fashion, at Rebekah’s we firmly believe the bridal gown must reflect the personality of the bride.
Our business has since grown by word of mouth, with brides referring their friends and family to us; a good wedding dress speaks for itself!

What made you decide to work in the fashion/textiles industry?
On one hand, I’ve been a lover of art, music, style and aesthetics all my life, and on the other I’m a qualified and accredited Financial Planning Adviser. Stepping into the dressmaking business felt like a very natural extension of who I am. I saw a need for professional and experienced people in this area, I was also faced with disappointment with local tailors who failed to understand what I wanted as a customer, could not do fittings properly, and were not able to give any recommendations on patterns and other stylistic choices.
All of this came together as the catalyst for identifying this need and propelled me into the dressmaking business. Surrounded with firm family support, I decided to take a leap of faith. Today Rebekah’s maintains an engaged and consistent customer base, and we’re now starting to reward clients for referrals, engaging in photo-shoots and collaborations, and taking advantage of many other opportunities in this space.

What do you love most about your job?
As the Founder and Managing Director of this business, it has been a fantastic journey bringing together uniquely talented, skilled and experienced dressmakers and increasing our visibility while building trust in the bridal and evening gowns market.
Each project is unique in its design and making. Additionally, I love meeting and interacting with women from diverse backgrounds and cultures, which is almost unavoidable in Dubai but even more pronounced in the dressmaking industry.
Networking and collaborating with other wedding vendors has proved to be an engaging, enriching and rewarding experience.

Tell us about the process for brides-to-be who would like to have a bespoke gown designed…
Our highly experienced, qualified and friendly team ensures personalised attention, taking you through the steps of sketching, precise measurements, toile dress and final gown fittings. Should the bride-to-be require designer services, our Bridal Gown Designer is available by special appointment to discuss and advise on styles and fabric that compliment your body shape, helping you make the best choice for your special day.
At the consultation appointment we like to establish body shape – it’s important to know what you’re looking for. We then talk about the budget, the location of the wedding, and how the bride’s hairstyle may affect the design of the gown. Once the dress design is finalised and sketched, other accessories that may be required (veil, train, garter etc.) are discussed. The first ‘toile’ or mock dress fitting happens within ten days. The ‘toile’ is made of thick cotton fabric replicating the style of the gown. Once the bride is satisfied with the fitting, we finalise the first bridal gown fitting appointment. Depending on the details of the gown and any further weight loss, each gown may require three to four fittings before the final collection.

How do you establish trust from your clients? After all, it is one of the most important days of their lives…
As dressmakers specialising in bridal wear, we want our brides to look good as it reflects on us as well. Years down the line our brides must feel happy and content with the informed decision they made and how we at Rebekah’s helped them make that decision.
Our team is comprised of trained dressmakers who have over 20 years of experience in bridal wear and haute couture. In fact, we call our Master Dressmaker a Smart Engineer as he takes much pride in constructing and crafting the dress to fit the bride perfectly. We take our time to listen to the bride; our initial appointment has questions that many brides hadn’t given thought to prior to meeting our team of experts. This assures them of our care of how we want them to think ahead and prepare to be comfortable, stylish and elegant for their wedding day. Most brides come to us through referrals, having read the excellent testimonials from our brides, bridal party and other clients.

What have been some of your favourite projects?
It’s always challenging and stimulating to do something different. One of our most unique wedding dresses was a beautiful fusion of contemporary styles and traditional African prints, as our bride wanted the dress to reflect and celebrate her heritage. Our dressmakers created an elegant satin mermaid gown, and then made use of stunning and colourful Ankara fabric for the dress’s flared knee, truly unique and one of its kind!
Another wonderful project involved a bride who wanted all her bridesmaids to wear white, with each dress unique in its style and pattern. The twist was that we of course had to ensure that her white bridal dress clearly distinguished her as the bride. It was a bit worrying at first since the bridesmaids were all based overseas, but we were able to get precise body measurements by email using our detailed and extensive measurement form. Each individual style was cut and stitched fitting each of the bridesmaids perfectly!
What is your favourite fabric to work with and why?
I’d have to say that this depends on the design of the gown, so it goes on a case by case basis of matching the two up. For example, some brides may choose a simpler structured design, while others may opt for a softer, flowing style to their dress.
The wedding dress must look and feel as good and as comfortable on the inside, as it is on the outside. We take particular care to ensure that good quality, comfortable and soft on the skin lining is used to line the wedding gown.
In general, I have to say that stretch silks, crepes and satin fabrics are fantastic to work with as they provide a great drape on the body, ensuring a good fit.

What other services do you offer?
At Rebekah’s Bespoke, we create bridesmaid dresses in different styles, reflecting individual personalities whilst echoing the theme of the wedding. This allows couples to find the perfect mix-and-match look for their entourage. We also have regular clients for business suits and casual dresses.
To compliment the wedding dress, we also make veils, garters, boleros, simple headpieces, and gloves.
An alteration service is provided for brides who may have already bought a wedding gown or who would like to wear the wedding gown of a family member. Whether it is adding more layers of tulle, lace applique, adding a train, etc., our trained dressmakers ensure the dress is made to perfection both in terms of fitting and any preferred add-ons.

If you could give one piece of advice to our readers (brides-to-be) what would it be?
Most brides-to-be may already have a dream wedding dress. One way I like to put it is that it’s not just about saying ‘yes to the dress’, but about taking time and care in the design and fittings stage, so that the dress and its pattern says ‘yes to you’ in turn! Part of this necessitates meeting us at least six months ahead of the wedding.
Moreover, and perhaps this goes without saying: make every effort to get enough rest, and look and feel the most relaxed, refreshed and beautiful that you can be! Weddings can be huge events and certainly aren’t left to the couple to plan and run all on their own, so take pressure of yourself, trust those around you and, most importantly, delegate, delegate, delegate!

What budgets do you cater for?
We are well priced for excellent quality dressmaking. Our bridal patterns have been outlined and clearly priced, and all additional add-ons like lace applique, ruching, crystals, length of the train, etc. are also categorised and priced on our bridal order catalogue. We help brides-to-be construct a wedding dress and choose their preferred add-ons.
The dressmaking price for a simple A-line gown with no embellishments is priced at AED 1,800. Our ball gowns, which are more elaborate in the making, are priced at AED 4,000. We discuss and offer varieties of sample bridal fabrics to our brides-to-be and can also help source the basic fabric for them.
