Though the lockdown has been softened, #stayathome remains my motto for the time being. Although I really do miss getting my regular facial, it doesn’t mean I don’t get to stop me to treat myself with and keep my skin bright and blissful. And as we’re in this together, it may as be for the ups as well as the downs. So I created this little How-To of my DIY spa facial, for you to follow along and hopefully, brighten your day as well as your dermis.
My mornings are precious and it’s when I savor the little me-time I’m able to find these days. As such, I get up early and awaken my senses. I usually start citrus-y with the Neom Organics Reboost Your Energy Mist (available at PearlTree – details below), whilst stretching my body and rehydrating with a mug of warm lemon water. Warm lemon water acts as a detoxifying agent, is great for the digestive system as well improving digestion, balancing the PH of your body, and is a great immune-boost, full of Vitamin C, magnesium and potassium. I can’t live without it!
To get the glowy and healthy-looking skin you see at the end of my video, you can stock up on some of the products below or substitute with your own that you’re sure works well for you.
How-To Spa Without Ever Leaving Your House
The Base
Cleanse every morning, thoroughly.
Every morning I wash my face with Dermalogica Special Cleansing gel (it’s soap-free). Containing the naturally-foaming Quillaja Saponaria, it gently rids the skin of toxins and debris to leave it feeling smooth and clean. This is a great lightweight product that’s mild enough to use every day. The cleansing gel also contains calming balm, as well as mint and lavender extracts to treat redness and inflammation.
Exfoliate twice a week.
I use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant as it’s super gentle. Its Rice-based formula activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to polish skin to perfection. The ingredients include rice bran, white tea and liquorice to produce a skin brightening complex of phytic acid which helps balance uneven skin tone whilst the colloidal oatmeal and allantoin calm the skin. You will love how fresh your skin looks after using it.
Essential to the Glow – a Mask of course.
To achieve the dewy natural glow, I apply a glow facial mask once a week. I fell in love with the Ole Henriksen PHAT Glow Facial (available at Sephora.ae). As a PHA exfoliant, it’s ideal for sensitive skin and doesn’t penetrate too deeply. However, it still packs the power to reveal the newer and fresher layers underneath.
Replace vitamin sea with vitamin C!
I may have become a little obsessed with getting rid of the dullness that occurred from these days of quarantine no fresh air and limited sunshine brings. Then I found the Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum. This ultra-stable Vit C serum contains Lactic Acid, a form of chemical exfoliant. It works to remove the excess of dead skin, unclog the pores and even the skin tone, allowing the vitamin C to penetrate more effectively.
All that screen time has your eyes screaming for some TLC.
To erase the under-eye darkness and achieve a natural radiance, a well-targeted eye cream is a must. One of my current favourites is the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream. It contains Vitamin C to reduce signs of ageing as well as collagen to plump and rejuvenate the skin, restoring it to its youthful elasticity and banana powder-inspired pigments to instantly brighten the under-eye area.
Moisturise your troubles away.
As the weather gets stickier, I like to use a weightless moisturiser like the Dermalogica Calm Water Gel. It has Hyaluronic Acid for extra thirst-quenching to provide immediate hydration to dry and irritated skin – It softens as soothe.
The Glowy MU after effect
♡Allow the products you’ve just applied to penetrate and get absorbed by your skin before your make up application. Then start by giving your entire face a massage with the KNESKO Jade Roller (available at Pearl Tree, details below) to depuff and gently push the skincare products deeper. It feels great too!
♡Focus – How to Achieve a glow as if we spent the last 4 weeks on the beach: start with the award-winning Anne Semonin Glow Instant and you’re already halfway there (available at Pearl Tree, details below). This will help you to achieve that instant sun-kissed radiance using a revolutionary formula that’s rich in premium active ingredients. This bi-phase complexion enhancer instantly illuminates and covers your skin with a veil of sheer bronze colour. You can use it by spraying on a cotton pad and gently sweeping across your entire face, or by mixing it with your favourite day cream or foundation.
♡By using creamy makeup products, achieving a flawless glow will be much easier. Their silky formulation will help to reflect light off of the high points on your face. Nudestix has gorgeous makeup products that are great for this. They’re all about bringing out your natural features. I love the Nudestix Tinted Cover (available at Sephora.ae. It’s a light foundation mixed with a Korean skincare technology. I like to add a hint of the Nudestix Nudies (creamy blushes).
♡If there’s one product I can’t leave the house without (remember those days?)it’s my concealer. My all-time favourite is the NARS radiant creamy concealer (available at Sephora.ae). It can give you light to full coverage based on your preference.
♡To define my eye yet keep them natural, I use the Hourglass Caution Mascara (available at Sephora.ae). Its wand will separate the lashes and bring the exact volume we need for this fresh and glowy look.
♡Finish the look with a touch of gloss, for which I’d recommend The Dior Lip Maximiser (available at Sephora.ae). It’s ideal for smooth, hydrated lips giving them an instant, long-lasting plumped effect. It has a cooling minty scent which will be perfect for the hot summer months to come.
