Kim And Simon’s Multi-Themed Beach Wedding By Lavender Blue
Many brides-to-be struggle to decide upon a theme for their wedding day. But who says that you must pick only one? Kim and Simon’s beautiful beach wedding, brought to you by our fabulous vendors Lavender Blue, incorporated a travel theme alongside nods to Kim’s Chinese heritage and also featured super pretty colours.
Below, Nancy from Lavender Blue takes us through how she helped to bring Kim and Simon’s vision to life. The images, taken by Liz JVR, are breathtaking with lots of gorgeous detail shots. So, if you are trying to decide between two or more potential themes for your big day, we hope that this wedding will give you some ideas about how you can incorporate them both. Enjoy!
A Note From The Wedding Planner
We had the pleasure of meeting Kim back in March last year, seven months prior to Kim and Simon’s wedding date. She had already found her dream wedding venue and now wanted us to come on board and help her with the finer details, wedding styling and planning support in the lead up to her wedding day.
The wedding was to consist of a beach ceremony, drinks reception followed by a wedding dinner, and party. Like most of our clients, Kim had an idea of certain aspects that she wanted but needed some help bringing it all together and having someone on hand during the planning process.
Lavender Blue provided a bespoke service for Kim and Simon which included design and styling for the wedding day plus ‘on the day coordination’ management. This was the perfect option for them that provided the support they required.
Kim and Simon are both from the UK residing in Dubai where they both currently work. They have many friends here in the region but also had a lot of guests traveling from overseas for their wedding day.
The Venue…
Kim and Simon chose the wonderful Magnolia at Al Qasr for their wedding venue, with the beach ceremony at Layali. They felt that it was the best venue for them ticking all the boxes on their wedding venue checklist.
Colour, Style, And Theme…
Kim had quite a few ideas for the theme. These included travel (Kim and Simon’s favourite hobby), chinoiserie (a decorative style in Western art, touching on her Chinese heritage), and her favourite colours; peach, creams, pastel blue and gold!
To be honest this did push our creativity to a new level. We absolutely loved the challenge of bringing all of these aspects together and still having a synergy between each element!
For the beach ceremony, we kept the décor very simple, leaving the breath-taking backdrop of the sea to provide the already perfect frame. With elegant white furniture and fabrics, we used pops of colour in the flowers and ceremony arch to provide accents of colour. It was a very hot afternoon so we had prepared for this and arranged white umbrellas to provide some shade during the ceremony. Placing these in-between the chairs worked a treat and meant that (nearly all the guests) stayed relatively cool!
Part of the ceremony involved a traditional Chinese element. We sourced some beautiful chinoiserie vases to decorate the ceremonial table and followed the theme with some peach and white roses and hydrangeas.
Once guests arrived back at Magnolia, the travel theme really came into play! A personalised travel sign was created for Kim and Simon – a rather cool wedding souvenir for Kim and Simon to have in their home!
A travel themed table plan and guest book table were also extra touches to compliment the wedding décor. We continued the floral colour palette with the peaches and creams and added some touches of gold to provide a more romantic and elegant dinner setup.
Magnolia really is a perfect backdrop for transforming in so many ways, but it also works perfectly with just the smallest of touches, meaning that even with a more restrictive budget you can still create a perfect setting for a wedding dinner. Soft lighting is definitely a must, so we created a fairy light backdrop to the top table for Kim and Simon.
One of our lovely vendors provided the most amazing table names for this wedding. They got a little creative and made bespoke table names that totally rocked the travel theme!
We used lots of candles on the tables for extra soft lighting and beautiful full florals making the tables burst with life.
After dinner, guests moved inside to dance the night away to the sounds of band Stereo Sound with a fun Photobooth capturing those end of the night moments!

This is a great set of wedding photos. Flowers on the ground of the isle look great.
