The Wedding Home Run…
It’s almost time for our real Dubai bride, Amy Cowin, to get married! With about a month to go, nearly everything is organised, and all that remains is for Amy to collect her dress. Before we know it, guests will be arriving and Amy will be preparing to walk down the aisle. How exciting!
Read on to discover what Amy has been up to in ‘the wedding home run’. Enjoy!
The last couple of months have been extremely busy on the wedding planning front. I now feel like I am on the home run to the wedding and it’s really exciting!
I met with Yuliya from The Flowerful Project to discuss the final floral designs for the big day. As well as being super friendly and welcoming, her knowledge about the different types of flowers that are in season, will suit the venue, and will look the most beautiful, was just amazing. I really enjoyed my time with Yuliya and have full faith that the flowers on the day will have the wow factor.
The best part of the past month was meeting Lucile, the wedding planner at Jumeirah, to run through a full menu tasting for the wedding with the head chef and sous chef. What can I say? Our guests are in for a huge treat! The menu is simply exquisite! Also, as we have a few dietary requirements amongst our guests, the chefs were able to discuss with us options that tick every box in terms of allergies. They really were so helpful and massively put our minds at ease that all of the guests will be happy with the food choices. We also got to see the table set up for the venue and chose the uniforms that the staff will wear (that was definitely an ‘only in Dubai’ moment!).
Although the venue itself is absolutely stunning, I have chosen to add my own touches to it. For example, I have ordered tablecloths to compliment the cake table, candy bar and guest book table. We have also used The Party and VM Bespoke to create unique items to decorate the venue. For me, it’s the little touches that make your wedding personal to yourself.
Nik has also been getting more involved this month…by more involved, I mean ordering items for me from John Lewis online! His suit is also finished, and Whistle and Flute in Satwa have done a fabulous job, it’s absolutely amazing!
I seem to have spent every night of the new year wedding planning, so I am not quite sure what I will do when it’s all over. Maybe I’ll start planning our honeymoon, which will hopefully be in South Africa in December (please get in touch if you have any recommendations). However, I shall not miss the trials and tribulations of a table plan. The best thing I did was to download an app to help with this. It literally stopped me from tearing my hair out with changes to the guest list causing a huge headache!
As I write this I am on a plane to the UK for my final dress fitting; I haven’t seen my dress with the finished veil yet so I’m full of butterflies and excitement. I will be bringing my gown and veil back to Dubai with me this week. Emirates have been very helpful in the organisation of this and my dress will be packed in a travel chest by the bridal shop. Top tip – do call Emirates to tell them you are bringing your gown on a flight should you need to, this will avoid any problems at the airport.
On reflection, it feels like a huge relief to have ticked off so many big wedding jobs. Now my only worry is how I’m going to fit all the items I’ve bought in the UK within my luggage allowance…
Until next month…The month of my wedding….eeek!
