The Final Stretch
Excitement and anticipation are building for our real Dubai bride Loren Penney, who gets married in less than a month! In her penultimate diary entry, Loren discusses how she’s learning “not to sweat the small stuff”, and we learn how her first dress fitting went. Find out about Loren’s final, last minute preparations below. Enjoy!
It’s less than month until our wedding, and as you can imagine I’ve been experiencing a combination of both excitement and panic – not panic because I’ll no longer be a ‘Miss’ (we actually got legally married last month) but because we have all our friends and family coming out for the day and naturally I want everything to be perfect for both them and us.
Something I’ve learned this month is not to sweat the small stuff. I think at the beginning it was far too easy to obsess over a stack of bridal magazines and want to include every single thing that I liked; “What do you mean I can’t have a champagne tower?!” may have even come from my mouth but I’ve since learnt that a lot of the teeny tiny details that were waking me up at night really don’t matter at all. As we’ve chosen to have an intimate wedding, we’ve placed an emphasis on good food, good wine, good company and good music, and I’m happy with all the choices we’ve made. That being said, I’ve still managed to organise some beautiful bespoke additions to the decor that hopefully will remain as keepsakes for our future marital home, wherever in the world that may be.
As work got increasingly busy this month I found myself not being able to dedicate the time I needed to simple wedmin tasks and I was recommended the expertise of Liesel from Aghareed Weddings, who I have now enlisted to help me in the final few weeks and, most importantly, on the day itself. I have to say it was the best decision that I’ve made over the course of the past eleven months.
You’ll be pleased to know that I FINALLY (capital letters are necessary here) found a DJ! After several unsuccessful attempts at this, we tracked down someone that we had once heard play in a bar/restaurant in DIFC and ended up spending all night there as we loved the music so much, so that has been a big weight lifted – I was starting to think I would be up there on the decks myself!
I’ve also been following a low GI diet plan thanks to Lively Arabia, who deliver all my meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) directly to my door each day so that I don’t have to worry about grocery shopping or dialing for a take away when I’m firmly stuck at my computer doing table plans.
On the subject of wedding diets, I had my first dress fitting this month which was a really happy day. Every time I try on my dress, I love it even more than when I first saw it which is definitely a good sign! I can’t wait to wear it on the day and am now in the process of buying the finishing touches to accessorise it with.
Another thing that we finally managed to do this month was to book our honeymoon, and between you and I, I am just as excited about this as I am the actual wedding! As we can’t take a lot of time off directly after the wedding, we chose somewhere just a short flight from Dubai to ease on travel time and maximise on relaxation.
See you next month when it will be my final post before the wedding!
