A Vampy Kim K Make-Up Shoot
Hello lovelies!
A while back, I met the beautiful make-up artist Natasha Zaki of Glossy Make Up (pictured below) and, over coffee, we instantly got on. Her passion for make-up artistry is obvious and she is a lady full of ambition, which I like! Yay to girl power! After some brainstorming, I invited Natasha to become one of our BCME experts and, for the past few months, she has been writing some awesome posts on bridal make-up and beauty in general. You can read her latest post here.
While brainstorming, I mentioned that one of the most requested bridal make-up looks in the UAE is inspired by Kim Kardashian. We then discussed a possible shoot using Kim K as inspiration, but with a twist … we would add vampy red lips into the mix. Since I also conduct reviews on BCME, Natasha suggested that I be the model … he-he! I’m not shy of the camera, but I certainly do not have the patience of a saint. After some convincing, I agreed and below I talk you through my experience. A huge thanks to Candid Kama Photography for the gorgeous pictures.
The Review
The shoot took place in the pretty Candid Kama studios based in Business Bay. With crisp white walls and lots of natural light pouring through the large windows, it was the perfect setting. The Candid Kama girls provided yummy treats, such as freshly baked pastries and colourful fruits, to keep our energy up during the day.
Natasha set up her make-up artist essentials and I sat down, bare faced and ready to be transformed by Natasha and the lovely Andrea from Be Bar.
I immediately felt at ease with Natasha – her way of working is professional, but friendly too. Knowing that I’m not the most patient of subjects, she kept the conversation flowing to help time pass as my make-up was being applied and my hair was being blow dried.
For the make-over, Natasha used the following products to achieve my vampy Kim K bridal look:
♡ Smashbox photo finish primer ♡ Bobbi Brown cream foundation + illamasqua liquid foundation mixed ♡ Bobbi Brown concealers in peach, to colour correct, and beige, to conceal ♡ Light pink powder under the eyes by Anastasia Beverly Hills ♡ Bobbi Brown dark cream foundation stick to contour ♡ Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette to provide further contouring ♡ Make Up For Ever loose HD powder ♡ Nars orgasm blusher.
Eyes
♡ Dolce & Gabbana primer ♡ Make Up For Ever shadows ♡ Contouring powders in the crease ♡ Wojooh black liner ♡ Individual lashes by Ardel & Duo glue Dior mascara ♡ Lingering eyebrow pencil by MAC ♡ Make Up by Mario highlighter.
Lips
♡ Brick lip liner and Russian Red lipstick, both by MAC
Natasha was gentle during the make-up application and said she could have spent a lot longer contouring (her favourite thing). Some of the special techniques used by Natasha to create my glamourous Kim K-inspired bridal make-over look were as follows:
♡ After applying the moisturiser, she used Smashbox photo finish primer to fill any open pours and take away shiny patches on my skin. According to Natasha, it’s important to use a primer if your make-up is going to be photographed.
♡ Contouring was lightly applied using a Bobbi Brown foundation stick, followed by Anastasia Beverly Hills contouring palette. Apparently the layering of products creates a longer-lasting look.
♡ The eye base was Painterly by MAC Cosmetics. This creates a really flawless finish to the eye shadow and a more vivid eye make-up even when using natural-coloured shadows.
♡ Natasha used her secret highlighting combination on my high cheekbones so the make-up looked fresh and glowing in the right places.
Individual lashes were applied to create a natural long-lash look.
During my make-up application and hair styling, Dubai wedding photographer duo, Sheetal & Bhumi papped pretty pics of the bouquet supplied by Vintage Bloom and the dress and accessories provided by The Bridal Showroom. Once my make-up and hair were complete, Maria from The Bridal Showroom, helped me shimmy into a pretty wedding gown by Ellis Bridal and shoes by Rosa Clara. My hair was completed using a hair comb by Laperi and then the shoot commenced. I will admit, it felt very strange stepping into a wedding gown once again…
The Results
It was a super fun day all round, and our lovely photographers displayed the patience of saints while working with me – I thank them for being so understanding! And, I must mention that the Candid Kama girls also offer fabulous wedding photography packages, click here to see their BCME vendor club listing. Andrea of Be Bar was, as always, a whiz with my hair and was spot on with the look we’d requested. Natasha, Andrea and I are already discussing our next shoot. We’re thinking smokey eyes and soft pink lips, and something very different for the hair … Stay tuned.
