Planning your wedding is often a stressful process which can leave you feeling tired and overwhelmed. Your skin may start to suffer (just when you want it to look its best!) and it can be hard to relax during downtime.
BCME’s founder, Rio, and Assistant Editor, Rachael, were invited to try out some treatments at Tips & Toes, which has branches throughout the UAE and welcomes brides-to-be who may not have the budget for regular treatments at five-star hotels. While we sampled the Swedish Massage and the GlamGlow facial, there is a range of specific bride-to-be services as well as seasonal offers. We hope you enjoy the review below.
Location
If you’ve been in the UAE for even a short amount of time, you will surely have noticed the distinct Tips & Toes branches. With their purple facades, they are easy to spot, with stores dotted throughout the emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah. What’s really great about them is that they are located within shopping centres, meaning that it’s nice to grab a coffee or lunch before and after your treatment. The branches all differ in size and the services offered, but we’ve found through personal experience that it’s often possible to just drop in for a quick eyebrow thread, manicure or pedicure. Of course, more specialised treatments may require an appointment, so it’s always best to book in advance.
Tips & Toes generally consists of a large area for manicures, pedicures, threading and eyelash extensions, with private rooms for waxing, facials and full body massages. Purple tones dominate the interior. We checked out the Arabian Ranches branch, which is handily located within the community centre.
The Treatments
Swedish Massage – Assistant Editor Rachael
I’m always keen for a massage (who isn’t?!) so I was really looking forward to this throughout the day. Upon arrival at Tips & Toes Arabian Ranches, I was offered a drink and was able to sit and relax a while in the reception area, since I had arrived slightly early. My therapist arrived promptly and I was escorted into a private room, which had a peaceful lavender aroma.
I discussed my requirements with my therapist, who took everything on board and ensured she had fully understood everything. I’m a bit fussy and like strong pressure everywhere apart from my feet, but I also have a dodgy shoulder which needs a bit of care to prevent pain and injury. I was thrilled by how intently my therapist listened and personalised the service for my specific needs. As a runner, I am used to sports massages, but on this occasion, I was looking forward to something slightly more relaxing yet still beneficial for my aching muscles.
The temperature in the room was perfect as my therapist got to work with a lovely peppermint oil. I really felt muscular tension dissipate, particularly on my shoulders and back, which are always tight and knotted due to sitting at a computer all day.
The 50-minute treatment left me feeling revived and invigorated, and I certainly felt a lot more relaxed than I had done prior to the massage. I particularly liked the warm towels which were used at the end to wipe off excess oil.
Glam Glow Facial – Founder Rio
I opted for a facial for the busy lady on the go; The GlamGlow facial. If you are time short like me, this is perfect for a quick pick me up and a little TLC for tired looking skin. The GlamGlow Facial takes just thirty minutes and is easy on the purse strings.
My therapist started by gently removing all of my makeup and proceeded with a quick cleanse, using the GlamGlow hydrating cleanser. A sponge was used to wipe off the cleanser with warm water.
Next, she applied the GlamGlow Youth Mud Mask over my entire face. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t the most pleasant feeling, as the mask tingles and burns slightly, but I was assured that this was quite normal. After a while, the tingling subsided and I was left to relax for fifteen minutes as the mask dried. I was treated to a mini shoulder massage while allowing the mask to set, which was a welcome treat.
Once the fifteen minutes were up, the mask was gently removed using warm water. Finally, moisturiser was applied and the treatment was complete. My skin did look a lot cleaner and brighter post treatment and I would recommend several of these short but sweet facials for a bride-to-be in the lead up to her big day, especially if she is time short and super busy.
The Verdict
As mentioned above, Tips & Toes is super convenient for busy brides-to-be who are in the midst of organizing their weddings and want to relax or have a pick me up. The branches are conveniently located, meaning that you shouldn’t have to drive too far to get to one that is close to your home or work. It’s also good to be able to get a range of treatments done in one place. For example, Rio had her nails done after her facial. This saves time and would be a great thing to do with the ladies who are helping you to plan your wedding, especially after a busy day or afternoon of wedmin! Brides-to-be on a budget will also appreciate the reasonable prices at Tips & Toes.
Cost: AED 250 for a 50 minute Swedish Full Body Massage and AED 80 for a 30-minute GlamGlow Mini Facial. Tips & Toes branches are open from 09:00-22:00.
