Diary Of A Dubai Real Bride: Introducing Michelle Williams
After saying a fond farewell and good luck to our previous ‘real brides’ Loren and Anna last month (look out for their weddings on BCME soon!), we are thrilled to be able to introduce you to our newest bride-to-be.
Michelle Williams is a teacher who got engaged to her fiancé, Sam, earlier this year. Each month, she’ll be writing about the ups and downs of wedding planning; from the joy when finally deciding upon The Dress and selecting a colour scheme, to those moments when stress levels are high and it just seems like there’s not enough time. Michelle is taking on all the planning herself, despite working full time, and we can’t wait to follow her progress. For now, in Michelle’s first post, we find out how Sam proposed. Enjoy!
The Proposal
Our proposal story all started on February 14th of this year. We’d been trying to save money for months so we decided that we would not be getting each other presents this Valentine’s Day. I broke that promise, so Sam wanted to buy me flowers; I thought nothing of this and went about my day as usual. I was at work just finishing a class when the receptionist called to say, “we have a delivery for you, dear”. At that point, I was thinking ‘ahh, maybe it’s from head office, maybe a document or something?’
To my surprise, a beautiful bunch of red roses were handed to me with a cute gift card from Sam. I was a little embarrassed at first but it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. I was a chuffed little lady that afternoon. Time passed, so we got ready and headed out to 101 Restaurant at the One & Only The Palm, where we’d booked to have dinner that evening.
I started to notice Sam being a little out of character, ordering a full menu…starter, main and dessert, alongside some beautiful drinks. I wondered what on earth was up with him, as usually, we are more than happy with a main then maybe a dessert.
I actually had a little gut feeling about the proposal that evening but never actually expected it to happen. As we finished our main course and enjoyed each other’s company and the conversation, Sam took my hand and said, “I have something to tell you.” At that point, my stomach started flipping and that’s when he recited a beautiful speech, got down on one knee in front of the whole restaurant and asked me to marry him! I couldn’t believe my best friend was proposing to me and that this was finally happening. After Sam placed the engagement ring on my finger the restaurant started to clap and congratulate us.
It was a beautiful evening and a feeling that I will never forget, and now we find ourselves in the midst of wedding planning!
