The Diary Of A Real BCME Bride
Today, our real bride-to-be contributor ‘Salwa’ touches on a sensitive subject. See below for Salwa’s third bridal diary entry in the lead up to her big day in October.
Hi fellow brides, this week I’ll be sharing my wedding turmoil’s concerning a subject I think wedding planners rarely touch on: Plan B.
The last thing I thought I’d have to worry about was my wedding location. I’m not referring to the wedding venue, I am referring to the wedding country.
Politics mixed with passionate Middle Easterners has led to a shift in safety in recent events. Politics is a sensitive subject, one which I do not think appropriate to touch on at weddings. It’s just tactless. I say this with conviction, as I’ve witnessed one too many conversations escalate from friendly to vicious.
Yet it cannot be argued that politics affect us all whether we choose to get involved or not. And as fortune would have it, politics has directly influenced the location we had decided on.
As we Arabs well-know, an uprising could happen in a moment’s notice. My wedding takes place at the Dead Sea, overlooking Palestine (yes I said, Palestine for a reason). Unfortunately anything that goes up in the air including fireworks, doves or smoke has to be signed off by the Israeli State. Personally, this is not something I am comfortable with. That’s where a plan B comes in, one which I have yet to come up with.
My wedding is in 3 months! I have no idea where Plan B will be, maybe Puglia, Italy! Hopefully, there won’t be a need for an alternative to the original location, although my advice is to always have a plan b in mind!
