Our diary of a real bride contributor Kenz is back, with some exciting updates. It has been difficult for our Texan beauty and her handsome Indian fiancé Taz, with so many factors for both to consider, cultural traditions, and preferences, but they got there in the end. Over to kenz to update you on the progression of her wedding plans!
I am pleased to announce to you all that my fiancé and I can make decisions it seems! It’s taken several meetings with both sets of parents and with our potential wedding planner, but we have finally made some firm decisions. We’re having our wedding in March, half of it will be here in Dubai for Taz’s extended family, and the other half will be in Texas with my extended family and all our friends.
It’s a win/win. Taz’s family desperately wanted a destination wedding, but I was uncomfortable with the lack of control that brings. What makes Texas perfect, is that it’s a destination for Taz’s side, but it’s home for me. My mother used to be a wedding planner in Texas when I was a kid, which means we’ll hire all the vendors I grew up knowing! My favorite baker is coming out of retirement to make our wedding cake, the DJ I used to joke with when I came along to meetings with my mum, will DJ the wedding, and the photographers that used to take pictures of our family, will be the ones taking pictures at our wedding. I couldn’t be happier. We’re going next month (pending a visa for Taz) to look at venues. We already have some incredible locations pre-scouted; I cannot wait to see them in person.
Desert Or Beach?
The wedding here in Dubai will be small and intimate, mostly for Taz’s extended family. With it being smaller than we were planning, we’re hoping we can make it extra unique. This weekend, courtesy of the Bride Club ME concierge helping us short list some venues, we have plans to see some exciting locations in Fujairah, Old Dubai, and RAK. We are still having the debate we have had from the beginning: beach (Taz) or desert (me). With having the wedding in two different countries though, we’ll get to have two different settings. Maybe he’ll get to pick the Dubai location and I’ll get to pick the one in Texas.
With this decision getting made, it has given me a lot of relief, now we just need to set a firm date based on the venues we’re looking at. It’s so funny, every time I would meet an engaged couple in the past, who told me how stressful the planning was, I’d inwardly roll my eyes and say well I’m not going to be that dramatic, it’s only a party. No. No, it really is every bit as stressful as they say it is, least of all during a PANDEMIC! So, to all those couples, I would like to take a moment to apologise. And to all the future brides like me who feel they’re being dramatic or are just super stressed out; we’re all in the same boat. It sucks. But I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
